Herbert Smith Freehills is the first Australian law firm to register active commitment as a global employer to the New Colombo Plan initiative.

Supporting New Colombo Plan Scholars

The New Colombo Plan is a flagship Australian Government initiative providing new opportunities for Australian undergraduate students to study and undertake internships and mentorships in the Indo-Pacific and aims to lift knowledge of the region in Australia, build leadership skills, and foster people-to-people and institutional relationships.

The New Colombo Plan comprises of a scholarships program for study of up to one year and internships or mentorships, and a flexible mobility grants program for short and longer term study, internships, mentorships, practicums and research.

We are interested in discussing opportunities with successful NCP scholars. Further information is available at www.dfat.gov.au/new-colombo-plan.

“Living and working in another part of the world, experiencing new cultures, developing new relationships, all helps to empower curiosity, strengthen resilience and develop confidence. As a professional working in a global law firm with multinational clients these are good core skills to have. The New Colombo Plan promotes collaboration, globalisation and multiculturalism for both private sector organisations and students, and adds to the important process of enhancing relations and business and economic opportunities across the Indo-Pacific region.”

We invite law students who have been awarded the New Colombo Plan (NCP) Scholarship to our New Colombo Plan Internship program.

In 2020, internship opportunities are available in our Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo and Seoul offices.

Applications for 2020 are now open until 5 January 2020. Apply here.
