ALT trainee solicitor scheme

About the programme
Join our ALT Trainee Solicitor Programme at the intersection of law, tech, and business. Work with prestigious international clients in a collaborative and award-winning team. Qualify as a solicitor under England and Wales Law after the 2.5-year programme.
Seat rotation Developing you is key to our growth. You'll rotate through four seats, becoming a well-rounded solicitor. Your first seat will be 12 months and the rest will each be 6 months. We offer seats in Disputes, Corporate, Funds, Finance & Banking, Real Estate & Construction, and Employment, Pensions & Incentives. Complete all seats in Belfast or choose to go to London for your final seat.
Education We'll aid your development through our 12-month "Accelerate" programme which you will undertake in your first seat. This programme covers modules on personal and technical skills reflecting our ALT priorities. You'll complete the SQE learning programme part-time in your remaining 18 months across 3 seats, delivered in partnership with BPP.
Eligibility We welcome applications for our September 2025 ALT Trainee Solicitor Programme from penultimate and final year Law students, LLM students, and those who have completed a qualifying Law degree. Please note, previous applicants to our 2024 programmes cannot apply.
What we look for
You’ll need to be comfortable reviewing, analysing and organising documentary and factual evidence alongside having excellent organisational skills and an eye for detail.

We’re looking for consistent 2:1s throughout your degree but we’ll always take mitigating circumstances into account – please include as much detail as you’re comfortable with in the additional information box on the online application form.

Application process and key dates

Applications are now closed and will reopen in Spring 2024. Assessments will take place in May and June 2024.
Our application process includes the following:
  1. Online application form.
  2. Blended psychometric test.
  3. Technical test, followed by a drafting test for those who have passed the psychometric test and application review.
  4. Assessment Centre involving a scenario-based interview and competency-based interview with Partners and Heads of Practice.

We always recommend practising our psychometric test. You can find a practice test below.
