OUR STRUCTURE

We’re one of the leading international firms in Japan, having been on the ground here since 2000. We assist major Japanese companies and multinational companies on their cross-border transactions, disputes and projects, with a large part of our practice focusing on outbound matters.

Our Tokyo practice is consistently recognised as having one of the largest and most experienced teams of registered foreign lawyers in the city. Our practice centres on multi jurisdictional matters, particularly in relation to mergers and acquisitions, dispute resolution, energy, infrastructure and mining, project development, project finance, employment, construction and engineering and technology, media and telecoms (TMT) matters, areas in which the Tokyo practice is regularly recognised as being a leader in the field.

A DYNAMIC AND DIVERSE CULTURE

Diversity and inclusion is a key part of our culture and we celebrate the uniqueness of our people. Wherever you join us, you’ll find talented people with different views, experiences and backgrounds. This breadth of experience and insight adds new dimensions to how we tackle client challenges, drive innovation and attract the best talent.

DIVERSITY NETWORKS

We’re home to a wide variety of employee-led diversity networks. These provide firm-wide and client networking opportunities, key note speaker events and seminars. Our networks include Women Lawyers, Women in Business Services, HSF Ability, Family, LGBT, and Multiculturalism, which celebrates diverse ethnicity, religion, faith and culture.

CREATING AN INCLUSIVE CULTURE

We aim to increase the number of women in our global partnership to 30%. We were one of the first law firms to commit to global gender targets publicly, and we’re making progress to deliver a greater gender balance in our global leadership team by 2019.

RECOGNITION

Our commitment to equality has seen us awarded a number of accolades. In the UK for example, we’ve been recognised by The Times as one of the Top 50 Employers for Women, and we’re immensely proud of our status as a Stonewall Top 100 Employer for LGBT individuals. We were also delighted to receive the BITC Transforming Cultures Award at the Gender Equality Awards 2016 in recognition of our Working Smarter approach to Agile working. In Australia and Hong Kong, we were ranked a Silver Tier Employer for LGBT inclusion by Pride in Diversity and Community Business, and we are ranked Australia’s number 1 legal graduate employer.

PRO BONO AND CITIZENSHIP

Whether it’s a multi-jurisdictional pro bono legal matter, fundraising for a worthy cause, or working with our own supply chain to embed best practice, we focus on building relationships so that we obtain the best possible result for everyone involved. During your training contract you will have a wealth of opportunities to get involved in projects that mean something to you.
