Each year, we host a summer associate program in our New York office for US law students seeking to gain exposure to all aspects of our disputes practice.

We offer an opportunity that is well-suited to US-qualified attorneys seeking to develop complex litigation experience while, at the same time, gaining exposure to the practices of international arbitration and investigations and financial services litigation. Each of these practice areas offers significant cross-border exposure.

We’re looking for attorneys wishing to begin their legal careers in the United States, who are committed to the development of their legal research and writing skills, as they work closely with us to develop innovative responses to our clients’ challenges.

Regardless of location, the goal of our US summer associate programs is to afford you a realistic view of the firm, the work we do and the commitment it requires. The program is our primary vehicle for the recruitment of new attorneys.

As a summer associate, you’ll be treated as a full member of the team, and assigned work from active transactions and cases. You’ll act as an integral member of legal teams representing some of the biggest companies in the world. And you’ll work with and be coached by some of the world’s best attorneys.

Further, as former summer associates will attest, there are plenty of social events designed to enable you to meet your colleagues and enjoy the city. At the end of the summer, you’ll have a clear idea of whether a career at Herbert Smith Freehills is right for you.
