The New York office consists of US and UK-qualified disputes lawyers who represent clients in commercial litigation in US courts, and in investigations, cross-border matters, class actions, and international arbitrations. The attorneys in the office have a wealth of experience as advocates at all stages of litigation, including trial and appeal, in federal and state courts in New York and throughout the US. The team's experience is broad-based and encompasses a variety of sectors, especially financial services and consumer products.

Further, our New York-based international arbitration attorneys have significant experience representing clients in complex international disputes related to a variety of industries, including energy, construction, and oil and gas, around the world, with a particular focus on Latin America.

The New York team is extremely familiar with legal issues that arise in the context of cross-border disputes and the representation of clients based outside the US, ranging from jurisdiction and discovery, to issues concerning the possible extraterritorial reach of US law. In addition, the team is highly experienced in providing support for litigation pending or arising outside the US, including obtaining discovery for use in disputes pending outside the US. The team also has extensive experience coordinating complex litigation matters pending simultaneously in multiple jurisdictions.

Overview

Located in midtown Manhattan, our New York office lies at the heart of one of the world's most exciting cities.

Expertise

Our New York office opened in September 2012, with a focus on three specific types of disputes work:

  • International arbitration (both commercial arbitration and investment treaty arbitration) with US or Latin American links
  • Investigations and financial services litigation, which involves, for instance, cases with the Department of Justice and Securities and Exchange Commission
  • A cross-border litigation capability that, among other things, supports our international arbitration and investigations and financial services litigation practices and handles the US end of cross-border litigation for network clients

As we grow our presence in the New York market, we intend to capitalise on our reputation as one of the world’s leading disputes firms. Our ability to assist clients with their most complex cases allows us to foster and develop close client relationships, often evolving the relationship into that of most trusted advisor.

Global Mobility and Client Secondments

As a global organisation we support opportunities for our lawyers to spend time in other offices within our network. Fostering our 'one firm' culture, international secondments are a key way in which we share our expertise, enrich experiences and broaden horizons.

Opportunities to spend time at a client working within their in-house legal team are also common.
