Our 10 week summer program offers ambitious students the opportunity to develop their skills in our New York office. Summer associates are asked to select a primary practice group from among our litigation, international arbitration and projects offerings, and will become familiar with other practice groups by working on individual projects and matters throughout the summer.
We’re looking for attorneys who are committed to the development of their legal research and writing skills, as they work closely with us to develop innovative responses to our clients’ challenges. The goal of our summer associate program is to afford you a realistic view of the firm, the work we do and the commitment it requires. The program is our primary vehicle for the recruitment of new attorneys. As a summer associate, you’ll be assigned work from active transactions and cases. You’ll act as an integral member of legal teams representing some of the biggest companies in the world. You’ll also be matched with Partner and Associate mentors who will facilitate the transition into law firm life and act as a resource to you for any questions you may have.
Your learning experience is very important to us, therefore, we will provide feedback via mid-summer and end of summer evaluations, as well as informal check-ins periodically. The firm is committed to giving you the best experience possible and we welcome any thoughts or suggestions you may have to make your experience with us a favorable one.
Further, as former summer associates will attest, there are plenty of social events designed to enable you to meet your colleagues and enjoy the city. We have designed team building exercises that will allow you to get to know the other summer associates in the program and foster those relationships as well. At the end of the summer, you’ll have a clear idea of whether a career at Herbert Smith Freehills is right for you.
